August 2026 - GEO Logica carried out a comprehensive multidisciplinary investigation at Maison Marchand and the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, located on the French Riviera, with the aim of characterizing the subsurface conditions and gaining a detailed understanding of the stratigraphic and structural setting of the investigated areas.
The investigation combined 400 MHz Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), seismic refraction, DPSH, and endoscopic investigation,bringing together complementary geophysical, geotechnical, and direct observation techniques.
The GPR surveys provided high-resolution information on the shallow subsurface and internal features, while the seismic refraction was used to investigate the distribution of seismic velocities and identify variations in the mechanical properties of the subsurface materials. DPSH tests provided direct geotechnical information on the resistance and variability of the investigated soils, while endoscopic investigations allowed selected subsurface elements and construction features to be examined directly.
The integration of these complementary datasets enabled a more comprehensive characterization of the subsurface stratigraphy, ground conditions, and construction features, while reducing the uncertainties associated with interpreting the results of individual investigation techniques.
The study demonstrates the value of a multidisciplinary approach to subsurface characterization, particularly in historically and architecturally significant environments where detailed knowledge of existing conditions is essential for informed conservation, assessment, and planning.
